He was undefeated in his three career starts at two years old, in 1975, winning at the highest level in Ireland and England . It was decided to retire him to stud and he was purchased as a stallion prospect by John Hettinger. Sir Wimborne began his stud duties at Hettinger's Akindale Farm, in Pawling , New York , in 1977.  He died peacefully, in retirement, at Akindale in 1998.
